Happy New Years 2017

Last year the world lost a number of celebrities who have contributed in the music industry, sports and movies. Alan Thicke, Carrie Fisher, Robert Vaughn, Florence Henderson, Fidel Castro, Arnold Palmer, Gene Wilder, Muhammed Ali, Gordie Howe, Prince, David Bowie and Leonard Cohen are but a few that make my stomach churn.
Whether one’s interest lies in sports, movies, philosophy, music and or politics an influencer has been left behind. I will miss one above all… A fellow Canuck, Leonard Cohen.

Born in Montreal – Quebec, Canada. Legendary Leonard Cohen was an enlightened human being who touched the live’s of many with his songs, lyrics, poetry and unique way of vividly expressing moments. I was looking forward to watching his concert in Toronto or Vancouver this coming 2017, now an impossibility that hurts. He had released his final album called “I want it darker” weeks before ending his journey in our existence.
“Leonard Cohen’s final album is a bleak masterpiece”, telegraph UK. Not bad for an 82 yrs old Man who but lost his voice and managed to put together a masterpiece by handpicking collaborative talent.
“So long, Marianne” by Leonard Cohen was one of my favourites. Often I wondered what happened to inspire him to write this song. His lyrics painted a vivid picture, “your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm…”. Often I imagined two people lying beside each other, not talking but synchronizing their thoughts as two mental soliloquies reminiscing last night, to be the last.
Recently someone shared in Facebook Leonard Cohen receiving an award in front of Royalty while telling a story of the person who taught him how to play a guitar, his teacher committed suicide the night before his next lesson. In front of a crowd of many he explained the life of one, but illustrated nature, society, growth and Life.
Leonard’s Cohen passion for moments were shared in a way’s that only my friend Leonard, could illuminate. As I type improvised words and thoughts of admiration towards Leonard Cohen, I lament that with him an exclusive style of expression will no longer exist.
Goodbye my friend, goodbye Leonard Cohen… May you continue to touch the heart and souls of those willing to listen to your tower of songs.
