The Giant Fish was swallowed by the Ocean

Chapters on Robson street is closing like a giant fish swallowed by the ocean.

Chapters on Robson street is closing like a giant fish swallowed by the ocean.

Yesterday, on my way home I was surprised to see the Chapters store on Robson closing doors. Which immediately reminded me of Robson street in Vancouver prior to Chapter’s grand opening in the 90’s, with hundreds of magazine and book store’s thriving in every direction for miles. Chapters became the Giant Fish that swallowed all the surrounding stores and then some.

For years I would walk up and down the shiny floors of the perfectly manicured Chapters store, looking for merchandise while feeling remorse towards all those entrepreneurs that had lost business to Chapters. Wondering, if families had broken up as a fallout.

Now, that Chapters is closing doors… I wonder what happened? I can only conclude that the web has hurt book sales like many other victim industries such as video rentals, tourism agencies and now Chapter. The Web is like an ocean, vast, full of energy and impossible to beat its awesome power. Chapter’s is now the Giant Fish that was swallowed by the Ocean.
