Frequently Asked Questions

Below are questions frequently asked by our clients. In case you have you have a question not listed on this page, kindly use the comments section!

Before your session

  • I don’t usually photograph well, why would it be any different with you?

Photographing people who don’t usually like to be photographed is our favourite problem to resolve. Often, clients will leave the session saying that it was painless and fun. Later, we get emails and letters from spouses complementing the great headshot.

  • Should I research poses and be prepared with all the ideas in mind?

Having some ideas and pose suggestions can be helpful but it’s not necessary. We want you to come in fresh and willing to try lots of different styles and poses. Sometimes, the oddest pose and location becomes the chosen shot.

  • What clothing should I wear for my session?

We don’t recommend one particular type of clothing. However, consider your market, clients and how you would dress for an important meeting with a VIP client. Bring a few changes of clothing to provide options of how to best present yourself. Make sure your clothing is ironed and in fairly good condition.

  • If I didn’t get enough sleep the night before shooting and I don’t look my best as an outcome, may I reshoot?

At Art of Headshots we work with great clients. We treat you the way we like to be treated and we hope this is reciprocated. We also guarantee our work regardless of reason for needing a second shoot. So, if you come to the shoot feeling out of place, and it didn’t work out the way you had hoped, we will reshoot free of charge.

  • Our agency has unique requirements and specifications regarding lighting and final product. Will you meet these?

It’s the future of branding. Recently, we photographed dentists for 3M and were given a 20 page specification and branding manual for the project. We will do a free consultation to determine your needs and wants and will match your exact requirements making it a merger of styles.

  • I heard that you ask a lot of questions during the session… Why?

Yes, expect me or any portrait professional to be curious about your life. We want to capture beyond the subject and have a glimpse of you… you at your best. Questions are aimed at encouraging your distinction and essence. However, it isn’t the approach for everyone. We have had great success photographing clients who didn’t want to speak at all.

  • Do you photograph in studio only?

Depending on your needs, we may work exclusively outdoors, indoors or a combination of both.

  • How long does it take?

    Corporate headshots: about an hour.
Actor headshots: 2 1/2 hours – full session
(1 hour for promotional headshots session).

  • What can I expect during a session?

Each session is a little different from the last, but you can expect to spend some time chatting, some time shooting in the studio and, if time and weather allow, some time shooting outdoors.

After the session

  • How long after the session can I expect my galleries?

You can expect the galleries to be ready between two to three business days.

  • What if I need it the same day?

Same day service can be arranged and delivered. Expect a surcharge for the service.

  • Can I use my headshot for any desired needs?

We give our clients discretionary usage and send them 5 files of the headshot with various optimization to insure they have all the tools for branding needs.

  • What if I have acne or other undesirables?

Touch ups, enhancements and designs are all included in the session. We want to bring out your best.
